       Activity 2: Finding meaning

In this stage you will explore new vocabulary and learn some definition that are important to understand the text that you are going to read. Let’s check your knowledge on vocabulary.

 

Objective: 

You will improve your vocabulary through inferences.

 

Pre-reading

 

Step 1: work with the same groups from the previous activity.

 

Step 2: Assign roles to each member of the group (check Group Roles)

 

Step 3: Brainstorm your ideas about the title “The eye of the beholder” using Padlet (see tutorial in the resources section), there you must write your ideas, any idea that you have about the title.  

 

Step 4:  The recorder must summarize your ideas in the forum.

 

Step 5: Now, check your vocabulary knowledge. Do the activity, "My dictionary", there you must write the definitions from these words:

 

bandage, turn away, scream, take off, surgery, tries, fit in, allow, kind, birth, ugliness, beholder, self, beauty, treason, concerned, mirror, conform, weaken, hurt, a little while, amazed, belonging, leave.

 

You can use these online dictionaries, the Cambridge online dictionary http://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/british/dictionary?q=dictionary  or Word reference http://www.wordreference.com/definition/  to find out the meaning  of the words.

 

Step 6: Write the meaning of the words  with your own words in this wall.

Step 7: Now, let's check the words that you remember.
